Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Wednesday morning broke down and teared when he appeared in a Nairobi court for the mention of a corruption case that he is facing.

Sonko was appearing before Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti in the hearing of a case in which he is accused of demanding a Sh10 million bribe.

He told Ogoti he cried because DCI detectives chose to prefer more charges against him after allegedly refusing to withdraw an affidavit in which he adversely mentions Kristina Pratt Kenyatta in a case challenging appointment of Nairobi deputy governor Anne Kananu Mwenda.

In the case, Sonko is said to have demanded the bribe from Web Tribe Ltd through ROG Security Limited to facilitate payments to the company by Nairobi County Government.

He replaced his previous legal team of two lawyers on the case with a team of three new lawyers to defend him in the graft case.
