Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was on Wednesday evening moved to Kamiti Maximum Prison from the initial Gigiri Police Station, where the court had directed that he be held.
The embattled former governor will now spend Wednesday night at Kamiti Maximum Prison as he awaits a ruling on his bail application in case on multiple assault charges slated for Thursday.
Kahawa Law Court was forced to reopen after closing for the day to hear an application by DCI's Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) to hold Sonko for 30 days as they prepare terrorism charges against the ousted governor.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) claims to have intelligence on Sonko allegedly recruiting and arming a militia group to disrupt the peace and stability of the country.
Prosecution sought court orders to detain him for 30 more days to conclude their fresh probe.
