Aiyaz Shroff from Muthaiga Golf Club has emerged the overall winner of the prestigious Safari Tour’s Pro-Am tournament sponsored by Absa Bank Kenya at his home club.

A total of 272 golfers, among them 68 Pros from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Nigeria took part in the action-packed Pro-Am competition.

Aiyaz, who was playing off handicap 27, carded 43 points, followed closely by Haren Patel, who was declared the winner in the men’s category, after carding 41 points.

With 39 points on his card, James Ondigo emerged the men’s runner up.

Jenn Muthoni, who played off handicap 34, carded 39 points to become victor in the ladies’ category, kicking Susan Kanyora, who played off handicap 22, by two points to second place.

Playing off handicap 4, Martin Mwangi emerged the first 9 winner with 21 points, as Martin Wanyoike who was playing off handicap 11 carried the second 9 with similar points.

Similarly, Tanish Gudhka, who was playing off handicap 4, carded an impressive 36 points on the lush Muthaiga course to emerge the best junior golfer at the Pro-Am tournament.

The Top Team prize was carried by Pro Dismas Indiza’s team with 88 points, followed by Simon Ngigi’s with 86 points, and Riz Charania’s team took the third position with 84 points.

Absa Bank Kenya Chief Finance Officer Yusuf Omari, who spoke at the conclusion of the Pro-Am tournament and also played, lauded the turnout by professional and amateur golfers.

“As Absa, we see our sponsorship of the three legs of the 2023/24 Safari Tour Golf Series as a great opportunity to support our local professionals and amateur players as they prepare to take on the 2024 Magical Kenya Open later in February,” said Omari.

Absa Bank Kenya’s sponsorship of the ongoing Safari Golf Tour series is worth Sh4.5 million.

The Pro-Am tournament paves way for a four-day competition at Muthaiga with only the top 20 players set to advance to rounds three and four slated for Tuesday and Wednesday.

The winner of the Muthaiga leg of the Safari Tour will pocket Sh150,000 with the top eight tour players earn a spot in the prestigious Magical Kenya Open slated for February 22, 2024.
