Evans Chebet put on a stellar performance to bring home the Boston Marathon on Monday.

The Boston Marathon defending champion weathered the wet, foggy and windy atmosphere in the American city to cross the finish line in 2:05:54.

Tanzania's Gabriel Geay was pushed to second place in 2:06:04, while Kenya’s Benson Kipruto finished the tough race in third place in 2:06:04.

Chebet, the 2022 champion, becomes the first male athlete to defend the Boston marathon victory since Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot achieved a rare hat trick between 2006 and 2008.

Eliud Kipchoge, world record holder and two-time Olympic champion who sought to add Boston to his Tokyo, Berlin, Chicago and London crowns, finished in sixth place in 2:09:23.

Kipchoge went into the famous Boston marathon a favourite and looked headed for a win until Chebet, Geay and Charuiyot pulled a fast one on him in the second half of the race.
