Peter Mbae has formally resigned from his position as the Head of Government Delivery Services (GDS).

In a letter addressed to Felix K. Koskei, Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service Executive Office of the President, Mbae outlined that his resignation comes after facing unresolved issues that hindered his ability to carry out his duties effectively.

Mbae's resignation follows a tenure marked by several key appointments within the public service.

He began serving as Secretary for Investments Promotion in the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry (MITI) in January 2023, where he also led the Ministerial Delivery Unit.

In October 2023, he transitioned to the role of Head of Ministerial Programmes in the Ministry of Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management.

His most recent appointment in June 2024 was as Head of GDS, a position that involved overseeing the implementation of various government programmes and projects across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

In his resignation letter, Mbae expressed his dedication to serving with "utmost commitment and sacrifice," motivated by a genuine desire to achieve sustainable transformation in the lives of citizens.

Despite this passion, he noted that his efforts were thwarted by unresolved issues he had repeatedly raised, which ultimately made his position untenable.

"I have consistently brought to your attention issues that have not been resolved to date, and it has not been possible to carry out my duties as intended," Mbae wrote.

"My position as Head of Government Delivery Services is no longer tenable."

Mbae also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the public service, thanking the government for the trust placed in him.

He concluded by requesting to formally disengage from his duties to pursue other interests.

His resignation has drawn attention, as his role was highly publicised, and Mbae believes it is crucial to be accountable to the people of Kenya regarding his decision.
