National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) announced on Thursday that it had impounded a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) matatu for flagrantly violating traffic laws.
The popular “Moneyfest” matatu, which has been linked to President William Ruto‘s son, George Ruto, plies the Nairobi-Ongata Rongai route and was captured flouting traffic rules.
In an update on its social media pages on Thursday, NTSA announced that the matatu and another matatu also captured flouting the law had been detained at the police station.
NTSA did not reveal the said station, with the action coming after Kenyans on social media blasted the authorities for allowing the matatu to break traffic laws with reckless abandon.
In a viral video, the “Moneyfest” driver is captured speeding on the wrong side endangering other road users while three men dangerously sit atop it as a policeman watched helplessly.

The footage also captured the men sitting on top of the errant matatu excitedly recording themselves as they pushed aside other road users as daring conductors hang on the door.
A traffic police officer can be seen watching the matatu helplessly as it speeds past him at the Maasai Lodge junction along the Magadi Road in Ongata Rongai in Kajiado County.

The fuming Kenyans on social media demanded immediate action from the police and NTSA to tame the culture of impunity on the road by matatus linked to well-connected persons.
“We thank you for bringing this to our attention. The two PSVs are at the Police Station for processing and further action,” said NTSA accompanied by a photo of the two matatus.
