The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a series of planned closures on various sections of Uhuru Highway throughout the coming weekend.

These closures are necessary to facilitate ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at improving traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

The most significant closure will affect the Mombasa-bound lanes between Hotel Boulevard and the University of Nairobi roundabout.

This section will be completely closed from Thursday at 11:59 pm to Saturday at 11:59 pm.

This extended closure is to allow for the construction of a pedestrian tunnel connecting the University of Nairobi's Main Campus and the Chiromo Campus.

Motorists travelling towards Mombasa during this period are advised to use alternative routes such as Harry Thuku Road, University Way, Prof. Wangari Mathai Road, and Kipande Road.

KeNHA urges drivers approaching the affected section to exercise caution and strictly follow the traffic signage and guidance provided by police and traffic marshals on-site.

In addition to the extended closure, there will be three separate overnight closures on the Nakuru-bound lanes of Uhuru Highway.

The first closure will occur from Thursday at 10:00 pm to Friday at 5:00 am, between the Haile Selassie Avenue roundabout and Kenyatta Avenue roundabout. This closure is to facilitate the installation of service ducts.

The second overnight closure on the Nakuru-bound lanes will take place from Friday 10:00 pm to Saturday 5:00 am, between the Harambee Avenue exit and Haile Selassie roundabout.

This closure, similar to the first, is for the installation of service ducts.

The final overnight closure on the Nakuru-bound lanes is scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 pm to Sunday at 5:00 am, between Bunyala roundabout and Haile Selassie Avenue roundabout.

As with the previous closures, this is to facilitate service duct installation.

KeNHA advises all motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and utilize alternative routes during the closure periods.

They further encourage drivers to follow the designated traffic management plan and cooperate with police and traffic marshals for a smooth flow of traffic.
