The Kenya Defence Forces has witnessed a significant shakeup in its leadership hierarchy, with a series of promotions, appointments, and postings announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces President William Ruto.

In a move aimed at reinvigorating the command structure, Major General Charles Muriu Kahariri has been elevated to the esteemed rank of Lieutenant General and appointed as the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces.

This promotion comes as Lieutenant General Jonah Maina Mwangi's distinguished 42-year career reaches its conclusion.

Additionally, Major General David Kimaiyo Tarus has been promoted to Lieutenant General and tasked with the prestigious role of Commander Kenya Army, succeeding Lieutenant General Peter Mbogo Njiru, who has served diligently for 39 years.

Prior to his new assignment, Lieutenant General Tarus served as the Deputy Army Commander.

Moreover, Major General Jimson Longiro has been promoted to Lieutenant General and appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the National Defence University - Kenya, stepping into the role previously held by Lieutenant General Jimson Longiro, who now assumes the mantle of Commander Kenya Navy.

Brigadier Thomas Njoroge Ng'ang'a has also been recognized for his dedication and elevated to the rank of Major General, assuming the pivotal position of Commander Kenya Navy.

His previous role as Base Commander at Kenya Navy Base Manda has prepared him well for this new responsibility.

Several other promotions, postings, and appointments have been made across various branches of the Kenya Defence Forces, signalling a comprehensive effort to optimize efficiency and effectiveness within the military.

Among the notable changes are the promotion of Major General Juma Shee Mwinyikai to Lieutenant General and his appointment as Commandant of the National Defence College.

Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan has been reassigned to Headquarters Kenya Army as the new Deputy Army Commander.

Brigadier Luka Kipkemoi Kutto has been promoted to Major General and appointed General Officer Commanding Eastern Command.

Major General Aphaxard Muthuri Kiugu will now serve as Commandant of the Kenya Military Academy, while Major General John Maison Nkoimo takes over as General Officer Commanding Border Security Command.

Further adjustments within the KDF are expected based on the Defence Council's recommendations, ensuring a continued focus on leadership development and strategic alignment within the Kenyan armed forces.
