President William Ruto has announced the appointment of 10 additional women as ambassadors and six others deputy ambassadors to serve in different countries.

President Ruto made the announcement at the Moi Stadium in Embu County as he led Kenya in joining the rest of the world to commemorate the International Women’s Day.

The Head of State intimated that the postings were in recognition of women’s contribution to leadership in building the nation.

The President said the move was part of his government’s Bottom Up Transformation Agenda pledge to foster inclusivity and women leadership in national development.

“To show respect for women leadership as we honour the International Women’s day I have appointed 10 women to be our ambassadors and 6 women as deputy ambassadors representing Kenya in various countries,” said Ruto.

The appointments have seen Ruto replace Manoah Esipisu as the Kenyan High Commissioner to the UK based in London and Ted Kwaka alias Big Ted in Los Angeles.

One of the big beneficiaries of the fresh appointments is former Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) Director General Ezra Chiloba, who is set to replace Big Ted in Los Angeles, and ODM leader Raila Odinga's sister, Prof Walkowa Akinyi Odinga, who will be the Deputy Head of Mission in Los Angeles.

This comes four months after Ruto posted a total of 27 ambassadors to represent Kenya in various foreign missions replacing many envoys from the President Uhuru Kenyatta period.
