President-elect William Ruto’s swearing-in ceremony will cost the Kenyan taxpayers Sh200 million
This is according to the National Treasury’s report on the Pre-Election Economic Update which has provided Sh200 million for the ceremony scheduled for next week.
“The allocation of Sh200 million under the Executive Office of the President is provided for in the National Treasury for Assumption of Office activities,” the report read.
The National Treasury allocated funds to the Assumption of Office Committee, which was charged with preparing for the handing over of power.
The ceremony will be held on Tuesday next week at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.

According to the Kenyan Constitution, the President-elect will be sworn in seven days after the Supreme Court upholds the election victory following an election petition.
“The President-elect- shall be sworn in on the seventh day following the date on which the court renders a decision declaring the election to be valid if any petition has been filed under Article 140,” reads the Constitution.
After swearing in, Ruto will sign a Certificate of Inauguration and President Uhuru Kenyatta shall hand over power to Ruto and the instruments of power and authority, which include the Sword and the Constitution.
