The US government congratulated President-elect William Ruto following the Supreme Court’s verdict that upheld his victory in the August 9, 2022, presidential election.
The US government issued a statement on Monday after the Supreme Court gave its verdict on the presidential election petition filed by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga and his deputy Martha Karua challenging Ruto’s victory in the recent presidential election.
In the same statement issued by the country’s Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the US government congratulated Kenyans for holding a peaceful election.
"The United States congratulates William Ruto on his election as president of Kenya, as confirmed by the Supreme Court on September 5. We also congratulate the people of Kenya on the conclusion of a peaceful electoral process," the statement read in part.

The US government further said it looks forward to enhancing ties with Kenya under the leadership of Ruto.
"The United States and Kenya share a strong and longstanding partnership based on a commitment to democracy, security, and economic prosperity. We look forward to enhancing this partnership with President Ruto and his new government," the statement read.
Likewise, the US government lauded Raila and his Azimio team for abiding by the Supreme Court ruling.
"We commend Raila Odinga and other candidates for abiding by the Supreme Court ruling. Transparent electoral processes and the peaceful adjudication of disputes are testaments to the strength of democratic institutions," the statement read.
The US government had not yet congratulated Ruto after the announcement that he won the election.
