The High Court has nullified the nomination of former Kitui Governor Julius Malombe to run for the Wiper party.

Justice Christine Meoli cancelled his nomination certificate and ruled that it was unlawfully issued to Malombe.

Meoli also ordered the Wiper party to conduct fresh nominations within 72 hours.

According to the court ruling, there was sufficient evidence showing that the Wiper party contravened the Political Parties Act and its own nomination rules in handing Malombe the nomination certificate.

Malombe was awarded the certificate by the Wiper party to run for the Kitui gubernatorial seat in the August election through a consensus process spearheaded by the party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

"Following our Party Leader's clarion call for open, honest dialogue, we as the National Elections Board have following the consensus process, nominated @JuliusMMalombe as our party's candidate for the Kitui Gubernatorial seat," Wiper said.

There was a tight contest between Malombe and the immediate former Kenyan ambassador to Uganda Kiema Kilonzo.
