A major traffic diversion is set to take effect on the busy Magadi Road from Thursday as the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) begins culvert construction on a one-kilometre stretch.

The section affected lies between Brookhouse/Galleria, at kilometre 0+500, and just beyond the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) junction, at kilometre 1+000.

The closure will run from August 28 until October 20, 2025.

Explaining the decision, the authority said, “The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to inform the public of a temporary traffic disruption due to the closure of the Bomas - Kiseran (B19) Road from the section after Brookhouse/Galleria (Km 0+500) to the section after Catholic University of Eastern Africa junction (Km1+000). This is due to scheduled roadworks for the construction of the 2No. Box Culverts on the road section from Thursday, August 28, 2025, to October 20, 2025.”

To ease the flow of vehicles, two diversions have been put in place.

Motorists can either connect through Langata Road, Langata South Road, Kiboko Road, and Banda Lane before joining Magadi Road, or use Langata Road, Langata South Road, Kiboko Road, and Mukoma Road to rejoin Magadi Road near the Shell petrol station.

KeNHA has also appealed for cooperation, urging drivers to comply with on-site instructions.

“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the traffic diversion plan, project road signs, and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on site.”

The road serves as a vital link between Nairobi and Kiserian, and while delays are expected during the construction period, the works are intended to improve drainage and ensure smoother traffic flow in the long term.
