The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has cleared the Umoja Summit Party leader and former Director of Youth and Development in the Office of the President Walter Mong’are alias Nyambane.

The IEBC clearance makes Mong’are the first presidential candidate to be cleared by the commission to contest for the August general election.

The commission’s chair, Wafula Chebukati, announced that Mong’are had met all the requirements before the clearance.

"We want to confirm that you have complied with the checklist and based on that the commission will issue…I as the returning officer for the presidential election will issue you with a certificate, which will now enable you start your campaigns from today," Chebukati said.

Mong’are who came into the public limelight for mimicking the former head of state Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi in a comedy show known as Redykyulass was beside himself with joy and remembered his days as a comedian.

“I mimicked Mzee Moi and I remember one particular phrase…you said Moi will not come back…I am back,” Nyambane said.

Mong’are who recently lost his dad was accompanied by his family to the Bomas of Kenya where he was given the green light to contest in the presidential race in the August poll.
