Six Members of Makueni County Assembly were arrested on Monday for fraud.
The six were arrested for allegedly claiming and receiving public funds; Sh175,018.50 each in full per diem for a privately sponsored trip to Dubai.
According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the trip was fully sponsored by Kibwezi West MP Patrick Musimba.
EACC said in a statement issued on Monday that the MCAs Cosmas Mutunga, Bensley Mwania, Timothy Sirei Maneno, John Muli, Bernard Muthoka and, Bernard Wambua will be arraigned in court on Tuesday to face charges of fraudulent acquisition of public property.
“The private Dubai trip, which was fully sponsored by the then MP, Hon. Dr. Patrick Musimba, was undertaken from 14/04/2014 to 21/04/2014. Upon return, the MCAs fraudulently claimed and received Kshs. 175,018.50 each as per diem which they were not entitled to,” EACC said.

The MCAs will be charged alongside Edward Libendi who was the then Clerk of assembly for allegedly facilitating the settlement of the illegal claims.
The 6 MCAs were arrested and processed at the Makueni Police Station before being released on bond.
