Kenya’s national carrier, Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced that it will implement an exclusively cashless system effective 1st June 2022.
This system should be expected at the Moi International Airport (Mombasa) and the Kisumu International Airport.
The national carrier announced the implementation of the cashless system at the two airports in a statement issued on Monday.
KQ says the implementation of a cashless system helps in supporting customer inclination toward the cashless transaction and will also improve the efficiency of customers’ service delivery.

“The implementation of a cashless system helps to support the customer shift and preference to cashless transaction and will ease cash collection and reconciliation issues at the airports ensuring efficient services to customers,” KQ said.
The national carrier says it will henceforth accept payment through various cashless payment methods, depending on the preference of the guests from Credit/Debit cards to mobile wallets.
“Payments will now only be accepted through debit or credit cards and other online payment apps. Guests can choose from alternative payment options, including Credit/Debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, Union Pay) or M-pesa,” KQ said.’
The move by KQ is revolutionary and since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic many institutions, establishments and service providers have embraced electronic money payment methods, including the PSV industry.
