The Azimio Woman Movement wants NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua named as the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s running mate.
The group came up with the suggestion after holding a meeting drawing all the 26 affiliate parties of the Azimio coalition on Monday.
They described Karua as an experienced national leader whose record speaks for itself and has served as a minister in the country.

Speaking during the meeting, the Public Service and Gender Programmes CAS Rachel Shebesh said they do not see why Karua’s value cannot be recognised.
“One of the reasons that we were here is as simple as this: Martha Karua as deputy president. It is not rocket science, we do not see why you cannot see the value of Martha, she is a national figure who has been a minister and her record speaks for itself,” Shebesh said.
Shebesh added Kaura is a committed woman with integrity and astuteness. She asserted that the Azimio Women Group are negotiating for her space irrespective of their political parties.
Shebesh wished the other candidates lobbying for the running mate’s position luck but guaranteed that their strategy would win.
“The rest of the names that are lobbying around Azimio, we wish them well, but we think our strategy might be the winning one,” she said.
Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu convened the Azimio Women Movement and according to Ngilu, the meeting’s main agenda was to discuss how Raila will win the majority of the women’s votes.
Ngilu said the women unanimously proposed and endorsed Karua to be Raila’s running mate.
“Today I convened a round table of Azimio Women Movement to discuss how Baba @RailaOdinga will win majority of the Women vote. Women form half of the registered voters in Kenya today. Deservedly we the women unanimously propose and endorse @MarthaKarua as Baba’s running mate,” Ngilu said.
The meeting was attended by among other female leaders, Martha Karua, Beth Syengo, Anne Kananu,
