Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has announced he is taking leave from the ‘hustler nation’ and Tangatanga movement linked to Deputy President William and his 2022 presidential bid.

The elected Jubilee MP said he will be taking a four-month “sabbatical leave” from DP Ruto’s camp to focus on uniting the opposing camps in the Luhya community.

Speaking in his Siuna rural home in Bungoma, Barasa said he would focus his energies fostering unity among Luhya leaders who have expressed interest in the presidency in 2022.

He warned that he would disassociate himself from the ‘hustler nation’ if the outfit championing a Ruto presidency is not concerned about the welfare of his people.

“If the hustler nation will not have interest of my Kimilili people at heart then I will automatically quit because politics is about interests,’’ Barasa said.

Insiders say Barasa fell out with the DP following the embarrassing loss by his UDA party in the recently concluded Kabuchai by-election, in which Ford Kenya’s Majimbo Kalasinga won.

The erstwhile strong defender of Ruto and his wheelbarrow economics stated that he would also audit what he has been able to achieve as Kimilili MP during his four-month sabbatical.

“From today henceforth, I’m going for a four month-sabbatical leave, it doesn’t mean that I have left Tanga Tanga. During my off, I will engage various leaders in Luhyaland so that we speak in one voice,” Barasa added.

Former UNCTAD boss Mukhisa Kituyi, who also hails from Kimilili Constituency and is a former area MP has set his eyes on replacing President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2022 poll.
