A mental assessment has been ordered for a 23-year-old house help who is accused of stabbing her former employer’s children resulting in their hospitalisation.

Makadara court chief magistrate Angelo Kithinji on Monday ordered that Gladys Naliaka Nalianya, who faces attempted murder charges, undergoes a mental test before taking plea.

The magistrate ordered the psychiatric evaluation after she remained mum as charges were read out to her and ordered that the report be presented in his court on March 29.

She was in court for assaulting two children; one aged 11 and the other five, after sneaking back into their house in Greenfields estate, Donholm while armed with a knife on March 11.

Naliaka had worked for their mother, Karen Gacheru, for two years before she was dismissed prompting the assault on her children leaving them with serious injuries.

She was arrested in Eldoret on March 13 after she fled the scene following the attack in Nairobi and she will now be detained at Buruburu police station until March 29.
