Gibson Gathu Mbugua, the veteran Kenyan actor who is popular for his role as a prosecutor in the KBC court comedy series Vioja Mahakamani, is dead.
Gibson passed away on Thursday morning while being treated at Mediheal Hospital in Nairobi following a long battle with a kidney ailment.
“Good morning friends and family... This morning I have received a phone call from Mediheal Hospital informing me that our brother Gibson has rested. It's been a journey but in all God is still on the throne,” said a message from his family.
Gibson had been admitted to a city hospital for a kidney transplant in July this year after former President Uhuru Kenyatta led well-wishers in raising funds for his medical bills.
The medical appeal in July managed to raise Sh6 million for the popular actor’s treatment, with Uhuru giving a personal donation of Sh2 million, resulting in his successful surgery.
The appeal was spearheaded by his Vioja Mahakamani counterparts Lucy Wangui, who plays magistrate, Hiram Mungai who plays Ondiek Nyuka Kwota and Mathias Keya who acts as Alfonse Makacha Makokha.
Due to the financial constraints occasioned by his kidney dialysis treatment, Gibson has revealed that he had been forced to go public to raise funds to be able to fight for his life.
“Dialysis treatment is costly. It exhausts your medical insurance cover and you start digging deep into your pockets. Insurance cover is limited. You have to undergo dialysis three times in a week and each visit you pay from Sh10,000,” Gibson had revealed then.
Before his demise, an upbeat Gibson had announced in August that his Kidney transplant had been successful and that he had been discharged from hospital.
“I have been in hospital since July 18, 2022, and I was discharged on August 3, 2022. I feel so good,” the actor had shared then.
The family members have already started making funeral arrangements for the thespian, who had also been battling diabetes for more than 20 years.
