During the weekends and holidays many parents start getting headaches as they have to make the most flummoxing decision of where to have fun with their children.

In that decision-making moment, parents have to consider the weather, location, pricing as well as the safety and security of their children as they create lasting memories with them.

So, when I learnt a new indoor family entertainment center had been opened at The Hub Karen mall in Nairobi, I was a bit skeptical thinking it was just any other ordinary kids’ play center.

Last Sunday, I decided to give it a try after prodding by my four-year-old girl who had heard about it from her best friend Brenda at school and man were we in for an amazing day.

Our eager selves landed on one of the long queues we found at the registration counters as we waited to purchase our Ultimate Passes giving us all day access to all games inside.

Sadly, the registration process, which includes signing a physical safety waiver form before going in, was a bit sluggish but nothing could dampen my little smiley M’s adventure spirit.

But Kenneth Odhiambo, the Assistant Manager at The Hub Park, assured me that the process will be soon fully digitized to make things move a bit faster and get to the fun.

After removing our shoes, we stashed them in one of the provided lockers and locked it and got right down to it. My M’s face was beaming with redeemable excitement.

“Daddy, I want to start here!” she backed as she ushered herself into the Interactive Hub, where I joined M in playing Fox, iwall, Valo Jump and Valo glide as I recoupled with the child in me.

We were just getting started. We skipped the Toddler section because only children aged between one and three years are permitted to play in the section accompanied by an adult.

I could not help but notice the cushioned flooring mats all around the park that gives me as a parent an assurance my girl will be safe and enjoy playing in a comfortable environment.

Our next landing was Soft Play featuring multi-lane and single slides, a spiral tube slide, volcano slide, crawl tubes, cross-net bridges and sliding ball all apt for some active play.

I skipped this one and allowed her to enjoy trying out each one of them before the 20 minutes permitted per segment elapsed. M wanted to try out every single game available!

Next up? The Tag Arena where we enjoyed some ninja warrior games and collected some impressive points to beat previous youngster players and their competitive parents.

My poor millennial body was gasping for air he he he! On her part, he breath was taken away by the Air Park bouncing castles and Bag Jump and the climbing slide and drop games.

She still showed no sign of slowing down even as my body was busy reminding me vividly and very painfully just how old my raggedy bones had been on this side of the galaxy.

The Netmaze provided some badly needed relaxation ambience by according us (which can be translated to read me) some pretty low energy gameplay but she was having none of it.

She demanded we return to high-energy action! I obliged. It was time to test if she was ready for some rock-climbing at the Cool Climber. She gave in after a few tries on the basic climb.

From the look on her face when she was flying above like a superhero, I could tell she was becoming addicted to the Air Glider, where she glided between attraction from up above.

At around 4pm we took a health break and used the opportunity to grab some biting, which was short-lived as she ran back into the park pretending she would only do one last game.

Ladies and gentlemen, I was duped! My patience was tested for the next two hours as she back to re-experience the attractions we had tried before, jumping from one to the other.

Myself, I took the chance to walk around and have a chat with Kenneth, who informed me that The Hub park was formally opened on November 29, 2024 and attracted 11,000 visitors in the first month, with a total of 20,000 visitors having visited the facility so far. Impressive!

I was now forced to go and negotiate with my little terrorist to get her out of the Foam Dome while she was foaming at the mouth over the sudden end to the thrilling outing.
