Kenya has secured the opportunity to host the 2024 Transform Africa Summit (TAS), a significant event held by the Smart Africa Alliance, a Pan-African agency dedicated to ICTs.

This was announced by International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Secretary General Doreen Bogdan-Martin at the GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC-24) in Barcelona, Spain.

In a rejoinder, ICT & Digital Economy CS Eliud Owalo expressed Kenya’s excitement at the chance terming it a resounding validation of the country’s unparalleled leadership in ICT.

“This win is testament to the confidence that the Smart Africa Alliance has on Kenya as an ICT powerhouse, and a leader in championing the region's efforts to leverage the power of ICTs for socio-economic development,” Owalo remarked.

Owalo emphasized on Kenya's commitment to do everything it takes to deliver a world-class event ahead of the 2024 Transform Africa Summit which is scheduled for August.

He lauded the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) spearheaded by Broadcasting and Telecommunications PS Prof Edward Kisiang'ani and the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) for security the bid.

CA Board Chairperson Mary Wambui noted that Kenya hosting the summit will give the Authority a chance to shape discussions on sustainable digital economies across Africa.

“Hosting this event provides us with a front-row experience on the future of digital transformation efforts on the continent, and how we must work across borders to forge a sustainable digital economy in the region," noted Wambui.

CA Director General David Mugonyi emphasized on the need for participants to utilize the summit to exchange experiences and best practices with peers from across the region.

“Hosting our peers from the region provides us with an opportunity to share experiences and best practices, and most importantly, forge a common and united front in leveraging ICTs for the development of our economies,” said Mugonyi.

This year’s conference will mark the first time Kenya will host the summit in the decade-long existence of the Smart Africa Alliance.

It will attract 5,000 delegates from Africa and beyond and provide a platform to foster collaboration in digital innovation and elevate Africa’s digital transformation journey.
