The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon, set to take place on the 29th of October 2023, is poised to mark its 20th anniversary with a record-breaking wave of support.

Organizers have announced that they have received over Sh178 million in backing, showcasing a remarkable outpouring of solidarity for the pivotal event.

This substantial amount, bolstered by contributions from over 30 sponsors, is expected to ensure a vibrant and memorable marathon experience for all participants.

Most of the sponsors have chosen to lend their support in-kind, underscoring their dedication to enhancing the overall race experience.

The significance of this year's marathon extends beyond the athletic realm, as all proceeds from the event are committed to Standard Chartered Kenya's 'Future Makers' initiative, promoting economic inclusion, especially for disadvantaged youth.

Peter Gitau, Chair of the Local Organizing Committee for the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon, highlighted this crucial aspect, saying, "Beyond the transformative impact of our Marathon for athletes, we are delighted to be partnering with our sponsors who use our Marathon as a vehicle to promote greater economic inclusion, especially for disadvantaged young people."

Leading the charge, Standard Chartered Kenya has provided a substantial contribution of Sh100 million towards the event.

Prudential, a globally recognized insurance company, has joined hands by offering Sh10 million in both cash and kind.

The company will play a vital role in providing comprehensive insurance support for the marathon, reinforcing its commitment to meaningful community initiatives.

Prudential's involvement in the marathon includes ensuring that all participants are adequately covered by providing exclusive insurance services for the event.

The company has also secured rights for the popular 5km race, emphasizing its dedication to promoting healthy lifestyles and economic inclusion.

Gwen Kinisu, the Chief Executive Officer of Prudential, underscored the company's dedication to shaping a brighter future for all.

"At Prudential, we believe in the importance of securing a brighter future for all, and our sponsorship reflects our commitment to this cause," Kinisu stated.

"Our mission is to be the most trusted partner and protector for today’s generations and the generations to come, by removing the barriers for inclusion in health and financial security for everyone."

Kinisu expressed her enthusiasm for their involvement in the event, saying, “We are excited to be part of an event that not only celebrates athleticism and encourages healthy lifestyle for Kenyans, but also promotes economic inclusion and empowers young people to reach their full potential,” she added.

The growing list of sponsors also includes Akili Kids, who will serve as the family zone sponsor, Tetra Pak, and Oral Rehydration Solutions (O.R.S) who are named official hydration partners.

Little has been signed on as the Kit fulfilment partner, ensuring Marathon shirts are delivered to corporate sponsors and offering discounted transport to all participants.

The race, which is anticipated to draw over 25,000 participants this year, will be hosted by Nairobi County and the Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum.

The marathon will feature races across various categories, including 42kms, 21kms, 10kms, and the popular 5km Family run, along with competitions for Persons with Disabilities.

Participants can look forward to an array of amenities and support services. Greenspoon, the official fruit provider, will supply over 150kg of fresh fruit along the route.

Harleys will operate relief stations, offering products such as Deep Heat and Deep Freeze for the runners.

Additionally, mobile phone provider Techno has coffered gadgets worth over Sh1.4 million as prizes for the 42km and 21km winners. Long-standing partners Subaru, AAR, and G4S will provide lead cars, medical support, and security services, respectively, ensuring the safety and smooth execution of the event.
