Kenya's sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala has been named the LG Sport's personality of September.

Omanyala won the prize following his remarkable performance at the Kenyan round of the prestigious 2021 World Athletics Continental Tour Gold Series Kip Keino classic where he smashed his record of 9.77 secs.

Omanyala emerged second in the 100m that was won by American Trayvon Bromell in a world lead time of 9.76 sec.

“I have been nominated many times for this award and today I am happy to win it. It is always good to be appreciated back home for your exploits. I thank LG and SJAK for thinking about sportsmen and women, it means a lot because our efforts are recognized,” said Omanyala.

Aside from winning the award, Omanyala took home an LG SolaDOM Oven worth Sh65,000 that is used for heating, grilling, and baking.

Omanyala joins the likes of the late Agnes Tirop, who had clocked a women’s only 10 km world record of 30:01 and won the September award, tennis star Angela Okutoyi, basketballer Tylor Okari, boxer Elly Ajowi, world marathon champion Ruth Chepng’etich, Milan marathon winner Titus Ekiru, Safari Rally WRC3 winner Onkar Rai, Victoria Reynolds, and finally, Faith Kipyegon who have all won the prestigious award.

Other nominees for the award were, Malkia Strikers captain Mercy Moim, Sharon Chepchumba, Gladys Ekaru and Noah Kibet who won the 800 meters race at the Kip Keino Classic by clocking 1:44.97.
