President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that the Kenyan Government bagged the hosting rights for the prestigious motorsport event, World Rally Championship (WRC) from the International Automobile Federation (FIA).

The president was speaking during the closing ceremony of the 2021 WRC at the Kenya Wildlife Training Institute in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

“It gives me great pleasure, therefore, to announce, that we have agreed, with the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the World Rally Championship (WRC), to continue hosting the Safari Rally in Kenya, every year until 2026,” Uhuru said.

He affirmed that his administration will immediately begin preparations for the next WRC event and said he commits the required financial investments towards the same.

“In this regard, my administration will immediately start preparations for the next Safari Rally event, and I commit the required financial investment towards another successful championship in Kenya,” he added.

The head of state said he was proud that after 19 years he had fulfilled his 2013 promise to bring back the WRC Kenyan leg of the works series event. 

Uhuru congratulated the participants in the event and encouraged the participants who did not make it to continue working hard for improved results in the future.

He also wished a quick recovery to those participants who sustained injuries during the event and invited them to take part again in the next one.
