A Kenyan forgery suspect believed to be part of an international conspiracy ring, which has been targeting and fixing Kenyan athletes at the global stage has been charged in Kenya.
Elias Kiptum, who is accused of developing false doping claims against Kenyan athletes, was on Monday morning charged before the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Court.
Kiptum was arrested and arraigned after a probe by sleuths from the DCI Anti-Nacortics Unit, who had since September last year being on the tracks of a “criminal syndicate” said to be working with foreign journalists to fabricate information on doping in Athletics in Kenya.
DCI says the syndicate had prepared documents claiming doping was being encouraged and promoted by several state agencies to get Kenya suspended from the Olympics in Japan.
Fake documents ostensibly signed by Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) and Athletics Kenya (AK) officials were shared with scribes based in Europe, said to be part of the ring.

DCI said it led a raid on April 18 at Kiptum's house in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County and confiscated documents with ADAK and AK letter heads as well as suspicious bank slips.
Also recovered were contracts between local suspects and foreign scribes, 3 laptops, mobile phones and other electronic gadgets which are being analysed at the DCI Headquarters.
When he appeared before the JKIA court Monday, Kiptum denied all the 12 charges against him and will be held in custody until the court rules on his bail application on April 27.
