President Uhuru Kenyatta violated his own order on Coronavirus protocols banning sports in the 5 zoned counties by attending the ARC Equator Rally in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

He joined Sports CS Amina Mohammed and Sports PS Joe Okudo in gracing the rally barely a month after banning all sporting activities indefinitely in fresh measures to tame Covid-19.

“On his way from the NYS pass-out in Gilgil, President Kenyatta made a brief stopover at Soysambu Conservancy in Naivasha where he joined motorsport stakeholders led by Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed at one of the competitive stages of the ongoing ARC Equator Rally," said a post on State House Kenya's Twitter handle.

State House added that the rally was a test run for the 2021 WRC Safari Rally slated for June.

“The motorsport event, which has attracted 33 drivers among them State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita, is being held as a test run for the 2021 WRC Safari Rally scheduled for June,” it added.

While announcing fresh stricter Covid-19 measures in March, Kenyatta banned sports leaving a myriad of sportspersons without a source of income, as he sought to tame fresh virus infections.
