In a week that has had positive news especially in the last 24 hours for Manchester United fans, this was a chastening experience.

Coupled with the transfer stalemate that has brought into question Paul Pogba's future at the club, this was a deflating end to the weekend.

The protracted transfer saga involving Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund finally came to an end when his £73-million move to United was confirmed on Friday.

The winger signed a five-year deal. A deal for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is also imminent.

Then on Saturday morning, the manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also put pen to paper on a new deal until 2024 with the option of a further year.

Sancho and majority of United's first team players including Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes were not involved but Solskjaer still had a wealth of experience to choose from.

Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Daniel James and Mason Greenwood were all in the starting eleven.

Facundo Pellistri and Mason Greenwood combined well to set up the returning Jesse Lingard for the opener in the third minute.

A reminder of his qualities that propelled him to success during his loan spell at West Ham last season.

Charlie Austin headed Rangers’ level in the tenth minute and the home side took the lead after the break through Lyndon Dykes.

Wing-back Moses Odubajo scored a screamer from range in the 58th minute before Dykes added his second of the game and QPR's fourth two minutes later.

Anthony Elanga - who came on at the interval and missed a glorious chance - reduced the deficit with a left foot curling shot inside the far post in the 73rd minute.

This was a very encouraging win for QPR and could be a sign of good things in the forthcoming championship campaign.

For the Red Devils, it was an embarassing loss having laboured to a 2-1 win against Derby just a couple of days ago.
