Henry Kamau managed to pull a brilliant home victory after clinching the 105th NCBA Coast Open – Barry Cup held at the Mombasa Golf Club in the weekend.

Kamau secured his debut victory in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship series with an impressive 2 under par finish, a dream which has been loading for the past seven years.

The golfer, who is based in Mombasa, supported his bold forecast with style and class by carding 73, 67, and 71 to finish the three-day tourney 2-under and take the title home.

He used 105th NCBA Coast Open – Barry Cup at the coast to claim his first-ever KAGC title.

The 54-hole stroke play championship was held from July11-13, 2025 at Mombaa Golf Club bringing together 67 top amateur golfers for a stab at the enticing Sh400,000 prize purse.

Speaking on Thursday, Mombasa Golf Club Captain George Mokaya had predicted the home club would remain with the NCBA Coast Open trophy and Kamau did not disappoint him.

Kamau himself had exuded confidence in the runup to the tournament: “In 2023, I came close. This year, I’m going for it.”

The 2024 champion Michael Karanga, current KAGC series leader John Lejirma, and elite amateur Carl Wambasi missed the event as they joined George Themburu and Avnish Bhandari in Mauritius for the MCB Indian Ocean Open.


NCBA Group Managing Director John Gachora has reiterated the bank’s commitment to continue supporting amateur golf and overall development of the sport across Kenya.

“We’re excited to be at Mombasa for this historic tournament. Our support for the full golf journey includes elite amateurs, and this event is a key part of that,” reaffirmed Gachora.

The Coast Open – Barry Cup is one of Kenya’s oldest and most prestigious golf trophies and was first contested in 1913 following a donation to Mombasa Golf Club by Percy Barry, a founding member, the club’s inaugural honorary treasurer, and a four-time captain.
