BIC celebrated the success of its third edition of the women empowerment program, Mama ni Mwangaza, recognizing the resilience and achievements of Kenyan women in local communities.

The initiative, launched in 2020, aims to equip women with knowledge and tools to enhance their financial and societal status, fostering a positive impact on their communities.

As part of this year's program, 6,000 women from Nyeri and Nakuru actively participated, with four outstanding chamas—Nunix Self Help, Elite, Let’s Grow Together, and Straight Forward Progressive—emerging as winners.

These chamas were awarded a total cash prize of Sh90,000 at a ceremony held at the BIC offices in Nairobi.

Salome Ngugi, the Marketing Manager at BIC East Africa, expressed her satisfaction with the program's impact.

"We are delighted to conclude the third edition of our women empowerment initiative in Kenya impacting thousands of women to date. Through Mama ni Mwangaza, we have seen phenomenal impact on the women we have worked with and consequently on their communities," Ngugi stated.

The initiative, focused on the efficient and safe use of flames, aims to empower women to make informed financial and environmental decisions.

Ngugi further reiterated BIC's commitment to empowering Kenyan women and supporting local communities, emphasizing the transformation of winning chamas' projects from ideas to execution.

"We remain committed to empowering Kenyan women and supporting the local communities in which we operate and look forward to seeing these projects run by the winning chamas translated from ideas to execution and brought to life."

Since its inception, Mama ni Mwangaza has made significant strides, impacting over 14,000 women to date, with this year's cash prize exceeding Sh90,000 to support community projects across the country.

The workshops conducted under the initiative have played a crucial role in shaping the financial and societal landscape for Kenyan women.

The initiative has witnessed remarkable growth, particularly in the depth of its impact on women in Nairobi, and this year, extending its reach to Nyeri and Nakuru.

As the winning chamas gear up to transform their ideas into impactful community projects, the Mama ni Mwangaza initiative continues to stand as a beacon of empowerment, catalyzing positive change in the lives of Kenyan women and their communities.
