President William Ruto is set to leave the country for the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP 28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in the United Arab Emirates.
Departing on Thursday, the President aims to advocate for Kenya and Africa's climate agenda, building on his consistent emphasis on tangible climate action since his inauguration on September 13, 2022.
At COP27 in Egypt last November, Ruto delivered a statement shifting the African climate narrative from victimhood to opportunity.
Now, from November 30 to December 2, 2023, at COP 28, he joins 100 global leaders to stress the urgent need for transformative climate action on a global scale.
In his role as the Chair of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), Ruto will deliver a statement on behalf of Africa, reflecting on the continent's priorities and the African Leaders Nairobi Declaration adopted in September 2023.
