The search for a 38-year-old woman who went missing a week ago ended on a tragic note after her body was recovered at Kajiado hospital mortuary on Saturday.

Caroline Wanjiku Maina had been reported abducted by unknown persons and police had swung into action in a bid to track her down and rescue her to no avail.

In a report filed on February 13 at Muthangari Police Station, Wanjiku's Toyota Axio was found abandoned in Kawangware near Gatina Primary School, Nairobi a day after she went missing.

DCI Nairobi Area’s Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) took over the matter together with detectives from Dagoretti, who arrested four suspects in relation to Wanjiku’s abduction.

The suspects Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers nabbed over the abduction and murder are Edwin Otieno Odiwuor, Samwel Okoth Adinda, Stevenson Oduor Ouma and Mercy Gitiri Mongo.

Probe revealed that prior to Wanjiku’s disappearance, she withdrew Sh350,000 from a Cooperative Bank branch in Nairobi, then went to meet Edwin at Ngara for a business deal.

Little did she know she was driving into a death trap, even as she called a female friend and told her she was meeting Edwin to help her boost her Stima Sacco shares with the withdrawn cash.

According to DCI, on reaching Ngara, she was forced into a black Toyota Crown plate number KCN 300D with Edwin inside and sandwiched by the other named suspects and handcuffed.

DCI said the detectives escorted two suspects, Edwin and Samwel, to Kajiado's Paranai area, said to be the scene where the suspects dumped Wanjiku's body after torturing her to death.

At the scene, police retrieved a pair of handcuffs used to restrain the deceased, her company stamp stolen from her car and a face mask she is believed to have been wearing at the time.

Wanjiku's younger sister, who accompanied officers to Kajiado hospital mortuary, identified her body, which had been collected from the scene on February 15, confirming their worst fears.

The woman’s body had marks of physical injuries on both wrists and her eyes had been plucked out of their sockets in a gruesome murder that has left her family and entire country in shock.

A Mercedes-Benz registration number KCW 179G believed to have been used to dump Wanjiku’s body has also been recovered at the home of the first suspect, Edwin.

The four suspects are expected to be charged with Murder on Monday even as police firm up investigations to establish the facts of the case and what transpired in Wanjiku’s last moments.
