Following a thorough evaluation of the prevailing security situation in the country, the government has made the decision to extend the closure of schools in Nairobi and Mombasa Counties to include all-day primary and secondary schools in Kisumu County.

This decision was communicated earlier on Tuesday via a joint statement by Kithure Kindiki, the Cabinet Secretary for the Interior and National Administration, and Ezekiel Machogu, the Cabinet Secretary for Education.

In light of the evolving circumstances, it has been confirmed that all-day primary and secondary schools in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu Counties will remain closed on Wednesday.

"Upon review of the developing security situation in the Country, the decision communicated earlier on the closure of schools in Nairobi and Mombasa Counties has been extended to ALL Day Primary and Secondary Schools in Kisumu County," the statement read.

"For the avoidance of doubt, ALL Day Primary and Secondary Schools in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu Counties shall remain closed tomorrow."

The government's priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of all students, teachers, and staff members.

According to the statement, the Ministry of Education will be closely monitoring the security situation throughout tomorrow, and the resumption of learning in the affected schools will be determined based on a thorough assessment.

A formal announcement regarding the reopening of schools will be made by the Ministry of Education in due course.

"Resumption of learning in the aforesaid schools shall be communicated by the Ministry of Education upon assessment of the security situation in the course of tomorrow," the statement read.

This decision comes as part of the government's commitment to maintaining a secure environment for educational institutions across the country.

Ensuring the safety and protection of students and educators is of paramount importance, and these measures are being implemented to mitigate any potential risks that may arise from the current security concerns.

The government advises parents, students, and education stakeholders to remain vigilant and cooperate with the relevant authorities during this temporary closure.

Further updates on the security situation and the reopening of schools will be provided by the Ministry of Education as soon as they become available.
