The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a stern statement emphasizing the potential dangers posed by planned public demonstrations scheduled to take place on Wednesday without prior notification.

This follows the call by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leaders' call for Kenyans to come out in droves to participate in the anti-government demonstrations against the high cost of living.

In a statement, the NPS said that it was concerned about the lack of notification from the organizers of the demonstrations, which it said posed a significant threat to national security.

“The NPS takes the right to assemble, demonstrate, and picket seriously,” said Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome.

“However, we must also be mindful of the need to maintain law and order, protect life and property, and preserve peace."

“Recent similar demonstrations have resulted in widespread property damage, injuries, and loss of lives. We cannot allow such violence to continue.”

The NPS urged all law-abiding members of the public to continue their daily activities without disruption.

“We understand that many people may be concerned about the upcoming demonstrations,” said  Koome. “However, we want to assure you that the NPS is committed to upholding the law and protecting the welfare of the citizens."

“We will take all necessary measures to ensure that any demonstrations that are held on Wednesday are peaceful and orderly.”

The NPS also took this opportunity to commend the unwavering dedication and patriotism displayed by its officers in their service to the country.

“Our officers have worked tirelessly to maintain peace and security in Kenya,” said Mr. Koome. “We are grateful for their commitment to safeguarding the nation.”

As the scheduled date for the demonstrations approaches, the NPS urged Kenyans to stay informed and adhere to the guidelines provided by the police.

“We encourage the public to monitor official announcements from the NPS and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities,” said Koome.

“By working together, we can ensure that Wednesday is a day of peace and tranquillity for all Kenyans.”

The NPS has also stated that it will take all necessary measures to ensure that any demonstrations that are held on Wednesday are peaceful and orderly.

The NPS has urged all Kenyans to remain calm and to cooperate with the police.
