DP Rigathi Gachagua has warned MPs who will oppose the divisive Finance Bill 2023 not to expect any funds for roads and other national government projects in their constituencies.
The Deputy President was speaking while accompanying President William Ruto for a church service at Leshuta in Narok County, where he accused those opposing the bill of incitement.
“I was in Kitui yesterday (Saturday) and their MP (Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu) spoke about cessation and people were clapping. And then soon after he was telling me they need roads,” said Gachagua.
He posed, “Where does he expect the money to build roads to come from?”
The DP was referring to a fundraiser event that he attended on Saturday at St Charles Lwanga Secondary School in Kitui County, where Mulu pushed for the bill to be rejected.

He argues that the passage of the bill will enable the national government to raise sufficient revenues to develop the country, including construction of roads in the constituencies.
“If your MP is opposed to the Finance Bill, they should not ask for roads. Some of your leaders are lying to Kenyans,” said the DP.
During the Saturday function, Gachagua indicated that the Finance Bill 2023 will pass in the National Assembly even if opposition lawmakers oppose it or opt to go back to the streets.
