A sombre mood has engulfed rally lovers following the death of Asad Khan alias Kalulu.

Asad died on Sunday while fighting for his life at the Nairobi Avenue Hospital’s High Dependency Unit.

Asad’s brother Adil Khan confirmed the rally driver’s death.

“Yes my brother Asad has finally left us. We had been at his bedside ever since he was admitted in the hospital with stab wounds. It is really sad,” Adil said.

The rally driver was admitted at the health facility allegedly after being assaulted by his World Rally Championship (WRC) driver Maxine Wahome on Monday.

According to the police report, Adil reported the incident at Kilimani Police Station after Wahome allegedly assaulted his brother.

Police rushed to the scene only to find that Asad had already been rushed to Nairobi Hospital where he was admitted to the HDU with a serious wound in his ankle.

Maxine was immediately arrested in connection to the incident but a Nairobi court released her on a Sh100,000 cash bail after spending two nights in police custody.

Asad’s family had made a passionate blood donation appeal to stabilise his condition, which was critical.

“We, the family of Asad Khan (Kalulu), hereby wish to express our utmost gratitude to all those who came forward to donate blood for Asad Kalulu. He remains in a serious critical condition and is fighting for his life,” the statement read.

Now with Asad's death, Wahome is likely to be charged with murder over the death.
