The 3-year-old twins whose father cut open their bellies and poisoned them in Homa Bay’s Kamenya village in Rangwe over domestic squabbles he had with their mother have died.

The twins, namely Opiyo and Odongo died on Tuesday night while receiving treatment at the Homa Bay County Referral Hospital where well-wishers rushed them in critical condition after their father named Ronnie Ochieng’ attempted to murder them.

According to a report by the hospital, the twins died of poison intoxication after the poison they were forced to ingest affected their major body organs such as the brains and internal organs.

Opiyo, the elder twin, died in the facility’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while Odongo died in the general ward.

Their mother on Thursday appealed to well-wishers for help with clearing the medical bill as her late husband’s family has abandoned her.

"I am calling on anybody who is willing to help me because I do not even know how I will clear the medical bill," she said.

Homa Bay County Referral Hospital’s ICU physician Dr. Charles Ochola has confirmed the remaining children aged 5 and 9 are now in stable condition.

Opiyo and Odongo’s bodies were moved to the health facility’s mortuary.
