Six people have died following a freak accident that occurred at Kamakis area of the Eastern Bypass in Nairobi County on Sunday morning.

The crash is said to have occurred after a private vehicle rammed a tuk-tuk crashing it into a 14-seater commuter matatu a few kilometres after the popular Kamakis clubbing zone in Ruiru.

A video that was widely circulated on Sunday captured a shockingly mangled and overturned wreck of an high-end vehicle moments after the accident as emotions ran high.


In the viral video, a man can be heard lambasting and insulting the supposed driver of the Toyota Prado that rammed the tuk-tuk into the matatu and killing the six people.

According to eyewitnesses, the said Prado hit two innocent bystanders after causing the accident before it landed next to a car wash shed right in front of the East Keys building.


The driver was later apprehended police and is expected to be charged with drink driving and causing death through careless driving, is investigations prove those claims.

The National Police Service is yet to issue an official statement on the accident amid outrage by members of the public at the scene and on various social media platforms as the shocking video and photos of the accident circulated from Sunday morning.  

According to Police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso, the National Police Service recorded a total of 15,924 road accident victims across the country between January 1- September 26, 2022.

Shioso revealed that of the 15,924 victims of road accidents countrywide, 3,541 were wounded fatally, 7,236 were injured critically, while 5,147 others sustained slight injuries.
