Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has set January 5, 2023 as the date for Garissa Township and Kandara Constituency and Elgeyo Marakwet Senatorial by-election.

This follows the appointment of Garissa Town MP Aden Duale, his Kandara counterpart Alice Wahome and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen to the Cabinet.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and his Senate colleague Amason Kingi declared the said seats vacant after Duale, Murkomen and Wahome resigned formally.

Wetangula and Kingi on October 28 issued writs to IEBC over the legislative vacancies paving way for preparations for mini-polls, with aspirants already positioning themselves to replace the trio.
