Construction work has officially resumed on the long-stalled Valley Road–Kenyatta Avenue/Ngong Road/Nyerere Road Interchange and its adjoining networks, according to an announcement by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).
In a statement shared on its official X platform, KURA confirmed the recommencement of the works, signalling renewed momentum for one of Nairobi’s key transport infrastructure undertakings.
“We’re back on site! Construction has officially resumed on the Valley Road–Kenyatta Avenue/Ngong Road/Nyerere Road Interchange, the Upper Hill–Haile Selassie Overpass, & the associated road network upgrades. We thank you for your continued patience as we Transform Urban Mobility,” KURA stated.
The project, which includes the construction of a dual carriageway stretching approximately 7 kilometres, features two major overpasses and improvements to adjoining road networks that aim to ease congestion in the Upper Hill and Nairobi CBD zones.
“We are constructing a long dual carriageway approximately 7KM, Adjoining road Networks and 2 Overpasses,” KURA disclosed, offering a glimpse into the project’s scale.

However, its sudden halt had not gone unnoticed by Nairobi’s increasingly vigilant road users. One concerned Kenyan had earlier taken to X to ask, “Why had you stopped?”
KURA replied candidly, citing financial constraints as the cause of the delay: “We had experienced some funding challenges but we are now back and ensure we have done the job by October 2025.”
This recommencement comes at a time when Nairobi residents have grown weary of half-complete urban infrastructure, with many projects often stalling due to budgetary shortfalls or tender-related bottlenecks.
The fresh assurance of an October 2025 completion offers some reprieve to motorists and pedestrians who have endured detours, bottlenecks, and dust clouds in the affected zones.
The revived project is expected to significantly improve traffic flow, reduce travel times between Upper Hill and the Central Business District, and enhance access to key arterial roads such as Ngong Road and Haile Selassie Avenue.
As the works resume, attention now shifts to progress monitoring and timely delivery.
