A Kiambu court has released Kiambu politician Gladys Chania and her co-accused Maurice Mbugua on a Sh1 million bond and two sureties of the same amount each.
The two were arraigned in court last Monday after investigations linked them to the heinous murder of Rwanda-based contractor/businessman George Mwangi whose body was discovered in Kieni Forest in Kiambu County on over two weeks ago.
The prosecution had asked the court to grant them fourteen days to conclude the investigation.
However, the court granted detectives seven days to complete their investigations into the Rwanda-based businessman’s murder.
The prosecution cited the complexity saying one person who used to be with the deceased all the time has also gone missing and they fear the person could also have been murdered.

According to investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Chania who unsuccessfully vied for the Kiambu Woman Representatives’ seat in the previous election is the prime suspect in her husband’s murder.
Mwangi’s murder is suspected to have stemmed from an alleged romantic interest the deceased had with a school secretary known as Lucy Muthoni who rented one of the Mwangi’s rental houses and was said to have ties stronger than the conventional tenant-landlord variety.
Mwangi and Chania had been married for over two decades, and their union was blessed with three children.
However, according to multiple sources, their union seemed to have been experiencing turmoil since the woman would mostly spend her time at their Thika home while Mwangi would stay at the splendid 5-bedroomed Mang’u residence whenever he was in the country.
