The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) announced the reinstatement of graduate constable remuneration.

NPSC issued a statement on Thursday announcing the withdrawal of the 2021 circular and commission letter that directed the stoppage of salary increments for 1,233 graduate police constables in the National Police Service (NPS).

The commission explained that the move complied with a court order that declared the stoppage as arbitrary, unreasonable and unlawful.

“The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has withdrawn Circular No.1 of 2021 dated 23rd December 2021 and Commission letter dated 17th November 2021, that directed stoppage of salary increment for 1,233 Graduate Police Constables in the National Police Service (NPS),” the statement read.

“This is in compliance with the Court order issued on 29th September 2022, declaring the stoppage of upgraded salaries from job group J to F, arbitrary, unreasonable and unlawful.”

The commission advised the Ag Inspector General of Police and Ag Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director to pay the 1,233 graduate police constable and non-commissioned officers a salary of an Inspector of police equivalent to job group J.

According to the statement NPSC, the salaries will be backdated from November 1, 2021, when the salary was stopped and will come with full benefits.

“Further, the Commission has advised the Acting Inspector General of Police, Kenya Police Service Deputy Inspector General and the Acting Director, Directorate of Criminal Investigation vide letter Ref No: NPSC/1/8/10/VOL.XXX(125), dated 3rd October 2022 to pay 1,233 graduate Police Constables and Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO's) a salary of Inspector of Police equivalent to job group J, backdated from 1* November 2021, the day the salary was stopped, without the loss of any benefits,” the statement read.

The Commission further said it will issue a revised Circular to further guide on the matter.
