An Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Presiding Officer at the Towheed polling station in Elnur Tula Tula ward, Eldas constituency who got shot by unknown individuals on election day had had his leg amputated.
The unknown persons attacked Mohammed Kanyare at the Eldas Constituency Development Fund (CDF) offices on Wednesday last week and caused him grievous wounds.
According to Kanyare’s close friend, the attacker accosted Kanyare and asked him to enter into a car before asking him to alter for m 35A in favour of a candidate, a request Kanyare declined.
When Kanyare was in the process of handing over the forms and equipment he used during the election to the Deputy Returning Officer, someone switched off the lights and in that confusion, the attacker shot Kanyare at close range, wounding him seriously.

“Inside the CDF Hall, when he was about to hand over the forms and gadgets to the deputy returning officer, someone switched off the lights and Kanyare was shot at close range,” Kanyare’s friend said.
Kanyare was rushed to Wajir County Hospital for emergency treatment.
The injuries he suffered in his leg were so serious that the doctors had to amputate his leg for his own good.
Elections in that region were marred with chaos, forcing the commission to suspend the exercise until Wednesday.
It took the intervention of Abdi Guliye who took a flight to Eldas to resolve the issues which allowed the voting exercise to commence, albeit on the following day.
