US President-elect Joe Biden is set to be sworn in on January 20 after the US Congress formally certified his election win.
This is after Republican Vice President Mike Pence certified the Electoral College count of 306 electors in favor of Biden, a Democrat, against 232 in favor of President Donald Trump, Republican.
Biden’s victory was certified in joint session of the Congress and Senate which was on Wednesday disrupted by Trump supporters who invaded the US Capitol Hill building.
Moments later Trump finally conceded defeat and promised to superintend a peaceful transfer of power to the President-elect after US lawmakers certified his decisive election triumph.
“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th. I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!” said Trump in a statement.

During the mayhem that visited the US seat of power, courtesy of demonstrations instigated by Trump through his social media platforms, one woman was shot by police and critically injured.
