The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) temporarily locked the media out of their National Delegates Convention (NDC) held on Tuesday at the Moi Sports Center Kasarani.

Journalists were unceremoniously bundled out of the arena and restricted from covering the delegates' resolutions 

Deputy President William Ruto’s digital strategist Dennis Itumbi downplayed the incident as a formal process needed to pass the NDC resolutions

“This was a very formal process and we request the media to be out of the room for one hour. We request the media to give us space to deliberate on the issues,” Itumbi said.

Ruto’s endorsement as the UDA’s flag-bearer was among the resolutions that came out of the private session plus several others.

The move by UDA to lock out the media during the private session elicited mixed reactions from members of the fourth estate and Kenyans alike.

A section of the public felt that was a foreshadow of what will happen in future if Ruto becomes president. They said the action was akin to media gagging.

Journalists also complained that they were being stopped from performing their rightful duties.
