The Secretary-General of the Jubilee Party, Raphael Tuju, has resigned from the party’s leadership.

Tuju’s resignation was announced during the party’s National Delegates Convention held at the KICC, Nairobi on Saturday.

According to Tuju, he resigned to join competitive politics.

“I am leaving the Jubilee Party leadership to go into competitive politics,” Tuju said.

Tuju said he will still perform other duties the president has charged him with even as he pursued his political ambitions.

He thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for entrusting him with the opportunity to serve in the Jubilee party and trusting him.

"I don't know how you dared to trust me coming 4 km from your competitor's place to run your campaigns. I want to pledge to you that you can continue to trust me. I say thank you," Tuju said.

While accepting Tuju’s resignation, Uhuru thanked Tuju for his service to the party and subtly asked ODM leader Raila Odinga to help Tuju in his endeavours.

“I want to thank Raphael Tuju, who's been Jubilee's Secretary-General. Maybe he's seeking another political seat in Nyanza. I urge Raila to hold his hand. Chunga mtu wangu bwana,” Uhuru said.

Tuju has served the Jubilee party as the Secretary-General since 2017.

Tuju has been replaced by Jeremiah Kioni.
