KUTRRH chairperson Olive Mugenda has been appointed as an independent non-executive director and chairperson at the Housing Finance (HF) Group.
Her appointment is effective from October 21, 2021.
Prof Mugenda takes over from Dr Steven Omenge Mainda who went into retirement in 2020.
The HF Group CEO Robert Kibaara confirmed Mugenda’s appointment on Monday.

“Her wealth of expertise and outstanding transformational leadership track record will be a valuable addition for the Group at a time when we are on a transformation journey. Prof. Mugenda’s mandate will be to oversee the Group’s growth and transformation agenda, specifically our diversification to a full-service bank,” Kibaara said.
Mugenda is a seasoned academician and leader, academic researcher and administrator with interest in women/girl education, research methods, statistics, leadership and governance.
She was the Vice-Chancellor of Kenyatta University and during her tenure; the institution made tremendous transformation and expansion in terms of infrastructure and finance.
She is the Chairperson, Board of Directors Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital (KUTRRH), a referral facility with an over 500-bed capacity, which she is also credited with establishing.
Upon her retirement from the University, President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated her to serve in the Judicial Service Commission where she represents members of the public.
Mugenda is also serving as a non-executive director of UBA Kenya Limited.
Prof Mugenda holds a PhD from Iowa State University, USA, Master of Business Administration from Eastern and Southern Africa Management Institute (ESAMI) in Arusha, Tanzania, Master of Science from Iowa University USA and Bachelor of Education (First Class Honours) from the University of Nairobi among other grand academic achievements.
