President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto are now the talks of the town after sharing some light moments during Kenya's 58 Mashujaa Day celebration held in Kirinyaga County.

It is the first time in four months when the two leaders last appeared in public together.

The last time they shared the same podium was during the Madaraka day celebration on 1, June 2021 which was held in Kisumu county.

The falling out between the two leaders emerged after President Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on March 9, 2018, joined forces through the famous initiative handshake and opted to work together.

The partnership between Kenyatta and Odinga later resulted in Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), a constitutional review in which the DP was a great criticizer.

Ruto regularly referred to the initiative as a means pushed by a few individuals to create certain positions for themselves.

President Kenyatta has on several occasions accused his deputy of trying to attack the government.

In February this year, Kenyatta called on Ruto to resign instead of criticizing the government within.

“On one hand, he is saying the government has failed and on the other hand he is saying we as a government has done this and that development,” Kenyatta said referring to Ruto who was then constantly accusing his government.

The two who are perceived to be rivals over the 2022 succession politics, were captured having a conversation with Ruto sitting next to President Kenyatta.
