The National Drought Management Authority has sunk boreholes in Mandera County as drought displaces 191,000 residents.

Speaking during the meeting with stakeholders, Mandera county commissioner Onesmus Kyatha has said the two levels of having the government have partnered with other non-governmental organizations to ensure that the region has enough supply of food and water for the residents.

The Authority has also provided spare parts for boreholes to enhance sufficient water supply for both livestock and residents.

Mandera National Drought Management Authority Director Hussein Ali has said the boreholes will solve water problems resulting from the breakdown of machines.

Ali confirmed that the Authority has identified seven water tracking centres that will be completed soon, as well as the distribution of livestock, feeds to the farmers.

Kyatha added by saying that the program will help to curb starvation in the county and ensure that residents have access to clean water.

So far, both levels of government have drilled almost 63 boreholes in Mandera County.
