A family in Nairobi has been left puzzled and in mourning after their 35-year-old daughter, a student doctor based at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), was found to have committed suicide in her car.
It remains a mystery why KNH paediatrician, Dr Lydia Wahura Kanyoro, took her own life and her body found in the backseat of her car moments after leaving a Master’s class at the University of Nairobi.
Police found two bottles of anaesthesia drugs - ketamine and midazolam, a syringe and a printed suicide note in the car and detectives are analyzing them to establish what led to her committing suicide.

Dr Wahura is said to have been pursuing her Master’s Degree in medicine at the University of Nairobi College of Health Sciences located within KNH and reportedly attended a 9am class on June 12.
She was later seen leaving the lecture hall headed for her car and at around 9:30am and it remains unclear what prompted her to leave her lectures halfway only to be found dead moments later.
A postmortem on her body has been scheduled for Tuesday.
